In a fine display of share guts and will, Sentwali Woolridge battled to a convincing 2 - 1 victory over Ivan Cardenas from Mexico at the 1st NORCECA Wushu Tournament in Monterrey, Mexico.
After losing a very technical 1st round, Woolridge won the second and third rounds convincingly to seal the win and Gold Medal in the Men's 70kg Division.
Woolridge used his superior striking ability to wear down his opponent in the second and third rounds in a very exciting bout, he overcame the high altitude and cold conditions in the open side arena to claim the win.
Meanwhile, Jermal Woolridge lost 2 - 1 to Joshua Cordova of Venezuela in a very close battle to settle for second place. This was a rematch from the 8th Pan American Wushu Championships in 2010 in Buenos Aires, Argentina where Woolridge lost more convincingly to the same opponent. He showed great improvement but it just was not enough to pull off the win.
Khalid Pitcher captured the Bronze in the Round-Robin competition.
Garon Wilkinson completed the triple with his last event Daoshu (Broadsword) with a score of 7.25 to match his 6th place finish in the Gunshu (Staff).
