BBA Winners Edge Time Trial Advisory

The Ministry of Public Works is informing motorists that the Bermuda Bicycle Association (BBA) Winner’s Edge Time Trial race will take place on Sunday, April 2nd between the hours of 7.30 am and 11.00 am.

A Government spokesperson said, “The following roads will be affected by all vehicular traffic.

Cycle Race Route

“Starting at Stonington Avenue near South Road in Paget Parish, traveling west along South Road through Warwick Parish to Church Bay Park in Southampton Parish. There they will enter the Park from the eastern entrance opposite Church Road and exit Park at the western driveway to turn back onto South Road to travel east back to finish at Stonington Avenue in Paget Parish.

Traffic Control:

“The bicycle race will commence on Sunday, April 2nd, 2023 at 7:30 am and is expected to be concluded by 11:00 am. All motorists are expected to use caution and avoid collisions with race participants. The race route will be under Race Officials' control. Motorists are asked to follow Race Official's instructions to assist with traffic control for this event.

Road Closures:

“There will be no road closures to traffic while this bicycle race takes place, motorists are asked to use caution. They must also allow cyclists to participate and give way when directed by Police and Race Officials.

Parking:

“There will be no parking restriction for this bicycle race, but motorists are permitted to park in designated parking bays along any part of the race route. Additionally, motorists must not block the race route or impede the participants in the bicycle race.

“In addition, the Bermuda Police Service is hereby authorized to “Close-Off” streets or portions of streets and authorize parking as the Commissioner of Police decides.

“The Minister responsible for works and engineering, in the exercise of the power conferred by section 7 (2A) of the Road Traffic Act 1947, makes the following Order:

“1. This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic (Bermuda Bicycle Association Winners Edge Time Trial Bicycle Road Race) (Variation of Speed Limits) Order 2023.

“2. This Order applies to the contestants and to the vehicles attendant on the contestants in the Bermuda Bicycle Association Winners Edge Time Trial Bicycle Road Race on roadways between Paget and Southampton Parishes to be held on Sunday, 2nd April 2023.

“3. The speed limits fixed by section 7 (2) (a) of the Road Traffic Act 1947 are hereby varied to the extent specified in the first column of the Schedule in respect of the contestants and the vehicles attendant on the contestants in the Bermuda Bicycle Association Winners Edge Time Trial Bicycle Road Race.

“4. The relevant roads or parts thereof specified in the second column of the Schedule are hereby declared to be subject, at the times specified in the third column of the Schedule, in respect of the contestants and the vehicles attendant on the contestants in the Bermuda Bicycle Association Winners Edge Time Trial Bicycle Road Race, to the speed limit specified in the first column thereof.

Schedule

Speed Limit: 75 kilometers

Roads: Commencing at Stonington Avenue near South Road in Paget per hour Parish, traveling west along South Road through Warwick Parish to Church Bay Park in Southampton Parish. There they will enter the Park from the eastern entrance opposite Church Road and exit the Park at the western driveway to turn back onto South Road to travel east back to finish at Stonington Avenue in Paget Parish.

Times: 7:30am to 11:00am”
