Kaden Hopkins and his Equipo Essax teammates competed in the Amorebieta 110.9 km Road Race this Easter Sunday morning in Spain.
The Biscayne test was marked by the fast pace that was carried from the starting flag, which barely allowed some cyclists looking to shape the getaway of the day to gain a few seconds of advantage on the initial circuit between the towns of Amorebieta, Lemoa, Usansolo, and Galdakao, to end up being quickly absorbed back by the platoon.
Mikel Retegi led home a group of 7 riders that were separated by 4 seconds, Retegi and Vincente Santamaria both had a time of 2:32.18, with Igor Lizarraga, Pau Delgado, and Angel Gonzalez all clocking 2:32.19. Imanol Arriola and Hopkins teammate Steven Criollo both clocking 2:32.22.
Hopkins competing for the first time in four weeks finished 66th overall with a time of 2:35.34, Hopkins’ job in the race was to ride for the Team climber, he also covered and worked breaks for the first 70 km to get to the main climb which he did.
