Hopkins Begins Training in Spain

IslandStats.com
Kaden Hopkins has settled in training with his teammates, Hopkins said, “I am happy to be on Spanish roads with Equipo Essax at this training camp. New beginnings!!”

The Alicante ensemble opened the 2021 season on Saturday in Zumaia after weeks of uncertainty over the suspension of the first tests of the calendar. A race that also kicked off the new Basque-Navarre competition, the Abiatzen Tournament.

The covered northern sky and the greenish mountainous landscape, characteristic of the area through which the Zuamaiko Saria ran, witnessed in the first person the first pedals of the cyclists of Team Essax. The six runners who took the exit successfully completed the 112 kilometers that made up the test, which was resolved in a crashed sprint in which Marc Brustenga (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) achieved victory.

One of the protagonists of the day was Oscar Moscardó, who starred alongside two other runners in the first fruitful escape of the day. The elite was involved in the heavy fall that merished the platoon in the last kilometer although, fortunately, without serious consequences. Performance similar to that given by his partner Sergio Soriano on Sunday, hanging solo after one of the toughest ascents of the day.

On Sunday, a not very different Cantabrian landscape received in Colindres ten of the pupils of Joaquín Gil, director of Team Essax, who positively values the performance despite the falls and results: "Listening to the internal communication of the team how they encourage each other, how they distribute the work and how they rely on the hardest times is rewarding".

"We have come very excitedly and eagerly, with a very young team, whose average age is 19.1 years. Today we are more cyclists than we were yesterday and we are on the right track, but we know that we still have a long way to go," concludes the Alicante technician.
