For the 2019-2020 season this would be arguably, the best race course, with the largest field of racers, as the Bermuda Bicycle Association’s Fat Tire Massive Mountain Bike Season resumed on the Southlands Property.
Under far clearer skies 92 Mountain Bike enthusiasts ran the full range of MTB disciplines. Southlands saw a few new trails cleared or refined and apologies for the stair ramp that worked perfectly up till this morning!
In the Open 60 Class, the traditional lead out of teenagers closely shadowed by Dennis Fagundo headed the field. Visiting Canadian Jeff Currie got caught in a huge bottleneck and took several laps to grind his way back to a decent spot. Mike Belvedere kept Sherman Darrell honest for a few laps at least. When the mud stopped flying, Alexander Miller dominated from beginning to end, clocking a 7 lap time of 1:08:07.106, Currie finished second in a time of 1:01:29.929 covering 6 laps and Alan Potts finished third in a 6 lap time of 1:03:06.899.
Jennifer Wilson won the Female Open 30 minute Division clocking 31:53.034, Jennifer Lightbourne was second in 35:58.993 and Zoe Hasselkuss was third clocking 37:36.310, all three covered a 4 lap distance.
