Bermuda Olympian Roy Allan Burch has been named as the Lake Norman Charter School Head Swim Coach.
“I was looking for jobs in the area in fields I was interested in and I came across the open Head Coach position at Lake Norman Charter, the school is near my house so it was perfect,” said Burch, who is now himself also back in Training.
Burch went on to say, “Once I sent in my resume they wanted to hire me.”
When asked what he plans to bring to the school, Burch said, “There is a lot I can bring to the table for the school. It's not an overly aggressive training schedule which made it a good fit for me.”
Burch continued, “The school is a top institution in the area.”
Burch concluded with this response to the question of do you have any ambitions of coaching in Bermuda, “I assume I would coach in Bermuda at some point, but for now I have the opportunity to really build my experience.”
Lake Norman Charter, which opened in 2008, won the N.C. Wells Fargo Cup for overall athletic excellence among 1A schools in 2013 and the 2A Cup for the Big South conference in 2015. Last season, Lake Norman Charter’s girls finished fourth and the boys sixth at the N.C. state championships.
“We are excited for what coach Burch will bring to our swim team,” Lake Norman Charter athletics director Matt Schlegel said, “and look forward to his leadership as we continue to grow our program and build upon its past success.”
