Whaley & Arkansas Move Up the Rankings

IslandStats.com
Off to its best start since 2011, Devwah Whaley and his Arkansas Men’s Football teammates improved to 4-1 with Saturday’s win and moved up in both national polls released Sunday. The Razorbacks will head into their SEC home opener showdown with No. 1 Alabama ranked No. 16 in the Associated Press (AP) Top 25 and No. 17 in the Amway Coaches Poll.

Arkansas moved up four spots in the AP Top 25 and five spots in the Coaches Poll. The Razorbacks have now landed in both national polls four consecutive weeks and earlier on Sunday came in at No. 16 on the FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll.

Saturday’s showdown against Alabama is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN.

Arkansas has won 10 of its last 12 games dating back to last season, including three of its last four against ranked opponents, and will look for its first home win over the No. 1 team in the nation for the first time since 1981 when Alabama visits on Saturday. The Crimson Tide own the longest win streak in the nation at 17 games.

Behind 100-yard rushing games from freshman Whaley and Rawleigh Williams, Arkansas totaled 353 yards on the ground en route to a convincing 52-10 win over Alcorn State for the program’s 150th victory at War Memorial Stadium. Junior quarterback Austin Allen had three touchdown passes, including two to wide receiver Jared Cornelius who topped the 100-yard plateau for the second straight week.
