Walker Campbell and his William & Mary Men's Golf teammates resumes its 2017-18 season as it opens the spring by hosting The Invitational at Savannah Harbor on Saturday, February 17th and Sunday, February 18th at Savannah Harbor Golf Club.
The Men's Golf team will look to recapture some of the magic it had at last year's Invitational at Savannah Harbor when they won the event and shot a school record 852 (-12).
This will be William & Mary's sixth tournament of the season, and the group brings a 290.36 average into the spring. William & Mary has finished in the top five in four of its five tournaments this season.
Junior David Hicks will anchor William & Mary's scoring lineup. The Junior led the team with a 72.29 stroke per round average in the fall. He won the Fighting Irish Invitational, and had both a top-five and top-10 finish this fall. Joining him will be classmate Gavin deFisser, who returns to the lineup for the first time since the opening weekend. deFisser recorded a 149 ( 7) in the rain shortened Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational.
Freshman Trevor Hecht will make his fourth straight start this weekend in the Peach State. The rookie has appeared in 11 rounds, and is averaging a 75.18 stroke per round score to start his collegiate career. Sophomore Campbell also returns to the William & Mary lineup in the event. He has appeared in five rounds this year, and has posted a 72.40 stroke per round average. Freshman Otto Voettiner rounds out the W&M lineup, as he will make his collegiate debut this weekend for William & Mary.
William & Mary will also send senior Tom Simmonds as an individual into The Invitational at Savannah Harbor. The Scotland native will make his season debut at the event, but he has appeared 17 career rounds for throughout his William & Mary career.
