Bermuda Under 16 Netballers played their final game of the Jean Pierre Tournament against Dominica.
Bermuda Starting team: GS Donnauri Robinson, GA Amali Smith, WA Ryann Hollis, C Zariah Amory, WD Demiqua Daniels, GD Micah Pond, GK Inshan-nae Smith - No Substitutions were made.
From the start of play the Bermuda team looked to play with a purpose, matching their opponent’s intensity and skills ending the first quarter down by one goal 4 - 3. In the second quarter Dominica applied pressure on the ball and managed to pull away ending it 13 - 7.
At the half the Bermuda team talked proved effective as they decided to go for all or nothing launching an all-out defensive attack which fueled the attack pulling the score back to 17 - 15 at the end of the third quarter. In the final quarter Bermuda continued to stick with the game plan, forcing Dominica to turn over the ball time and time again, unfortunately a missed shot rebounded by the Dominican defense saw the final whistle blow ending the game 21 - 20 Dominica.
After a long evening of Netball the Jean Pierre Tournament drew to a close with Bermuda placing 3rd in the Developmental Group and receiving recognition for the Most Disciplined Team.
Micah Pond was named as Bermuda's MVP of the tournament, with her also receiving special recognition as one of the top 16 players of the entire tournament. This accomplishment means that if a team from the Caribbean is invited to participate in a tournament those 16 players would make up the team.
Bermuda coach Kimale Evans said, “We can definitely compete at this level with us winning our game against Grenada who placed 3rd overall and losing by one against Dominica who placed 2nd overall.”
