Juma Mouchette and his Virginia State University Men's Cross Country teammates made their name known at the 2017 VSU Fall Opener. The Men's preseason preparations worked in their favor, earning them the first place finish.
The excitement in Rogers Stadium, with the support of the VSU Woo Woo Cheerleaders, the VSU Trojan Explosion Marching Band, and numerous fans, made the season opener and 1st place finish an event to remember.
The first place finish is not just a big accomplishment for Virginia State University as they start their season, but also because they took down the champs of Virginia Union University. VUU hasn't lost a regular season XC meet within the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) since 2013.
Under the direction of head coach Wilbert Johnson, VSU looks to break records as they prepare to secure the CIAA Title.
Sticking to the mission, Norfolk State transfer Tyreese Huff, broke Assistant Coach Christopher Henry's school record of 26:35 whereas he blazed the course in a 2nd place finish of 26:19. Representing VSU in the top 5 finishes for the opener was senior Mouchette who was 4th, with a time of 27.34.
