IslandStats.com
Bermuda’s Boccia members Omar Hayward, Steve Wilson and Paralympian Yushae Desilva-Andrade were again in action on the Final Day of the BISFed 2017 Regional Open Championships in Montreal.

Paralympian Desilva-Andrade finished 3rd in the BC2 Class capturing the Bronze Medal. This was the first time Bermuda has been on the podium in an International Boccia competition. It was also the first time all of Bermuda’s players advanced to the Semi-Finals of an International Competition.

Wilson finished 4th in the BC4 Class and Hayward finished 4th in BC1 Class.

Desilva Andrade defeated Matt Hiltner of the USA 3 - 2 to progress to Semi-Finals. She then played Tammy McLeod of Canada losing a very close match 4 - 3.

Desilva Andrade then took on Michael Mercer from Canada and once again this was an extremely close game and finished 4-4 in regular time. Desilva Andrade then won the tiebreaker to claim the Bronze Medal.

Hayward played Eduardo Sanchez from Mexico in his Semi-Final going down 6 - 2, he then went down in the Bronze Medal match 5-1 to his more experienced opponent Eric Lefebvre.

Wilson had some very tough competition taking on world number 8 Alison Levine from Canada in his first match of the day. He lost 5-1, however because of a good for and against he was able to progress to Semi-Finals.

Wilson then took on former world number one from Canada Marco Dispaltro again losing 5-1. He then had to face Alison Levine again in the Bronze Medal match however she was too good on the day defeating Wilson 6 - 1.
