RUBiS Around the Island Powerboat Race 2018

The 2018 RUBiS Around the Island Powerboat Race was held today with a fleet of 17 boats registered to race.

Four A Class boats began the race powering out of Ferry Reach heading up the North Shore before heading into Hamilton and then west around Five Star Island and then Dockyard around the head and down the South Shore before going around St. David’s head, back onto the North shore and back into the pillions and to the finish line.

David Selley and Matthew Smith dominated the race and took class honors, also setting an A Class record clocking 55:11, Shaki Easton and Shane Madeiros were second in the Class clocking 56:04.

The B Class was the largest class this year with eight boats racing through the startline, Quince Dowling and Tai Bean powered their boat to the Class Line honors stopping the clock in 57:02, Cleveland Maybury and Joshua Usher were second in 1:04:35.

Despite incurring a 9 minute penalty assessed due to incorrect start the D Class honors went to Geoffrey Willoughby and MaKinday Johansen who crossed the line in 1:05:43.

Andrew Cunningham and Henry Talbot clocked a time of 40:09 to claim the S Class honors.

During the race Steven and Keith Bridges were involved in an accident with Keith Bridges ejected from the boat and transported to KEMH.

Reports confirmed that Keith Bridges is ok and resting comfortably in KEMH under observation.
