The Bermuda Powerboat Association’s Memorial and National Championship Race Day came to a halt when Andy Stoneham and Steven Eversley were thrown from their boat #1 Suspect during the Memorial Race.
Both were transported to the King Edward Memorial Hospital where it was revealed that Eversley was suffering from two cracked ribs and a bruised right leg, while Stoneham was still being evaluated.
The race was well underway with 11 boats on the course, it was on the fourth or fifth lap that Stoneham and Eversley negotiated a right turn around the marker and the boat flipped throwing both Stoneham and Eversley into the water.
Crash boats and private vessels all raced to the area to assist with current Bermuda Powerboat Association President Ernie Mello and others jumping into the water to help the injured pair.
They were brought back to the Spanish Point Boat Club dock were Emergency services from the St. John’s Ambulance attended to the pair before conveying the men to the Hospital.
Following the incident the President called racing off for the day.
