Five young sailors will represent Bermuda at the 2017 Optimist World Championships in Thailand.
The five who will fly the Bermuda Flag are Sebastian Kempe, Jack Hildebrand, Christian Ebbin, Jordan Etemadi and Rian Geraghty-McDonnell.
Optimist sailors from all over the World will participate.
For the sailors the conditions are not one-dimensional. The gradient wind does depend on the surrounding weather patterns. At this time of year, good wind speeds can be in place from the morning. In the case of lighter morning winds, provided skies are clear, the breeze will tend to build during the day as the land heats up and the sea breeze reinforces the gradient wind. Average wind speeds are generally around 8 to 14 knots. However, these can rise to 18-20 knots. Racing is rarely cancelled due to excessive wind.
