Bermuda Sailing America Cup 2017 Finals Day 1

Emirates Team New Zealand came out swinging, much to the disappointment of the Oracle Team USA crowd winning both races in the 35th America's Cup Final on the Great Sound.

Billed as the rematch in Bermuda Peter Burling and his team started the day one down but came off the water with the lead and the momentum.

It was a nightmare start for Oracle Team USA, in the first race as they was handed a two-boat length penalty for crossing the start line early handing the advantage to Emirates Team New Zealand.

Emirates Team New Zealand seize on the early advantage to hold a 13 second lead over Oracle Team USA at Mark 1.

Emirates Team New Zealand extended their lead at the Gate 3 turn, their advantage over Oracle Team USA was at 46 seconds.

Late in the race a big mistake from Emirates Team New Zealand saw them touch down in the water, giving a slight chance for Oracle Team USA to catch them, but it was not to be as they wipe out the deficit in the first race of the 35th America’s Cup Final.

Race Two got under way and it was Emirates Team New Zealand who again took the early lead from the start line.

Emirates Team New Zealand continue to build on their early lead and it was at 23 second advantage over Oracle Team USA at the Gate 2 turn.

Oracle Team USA had an amazing fightback from to cut the gap, but they ran out of real estate as Emirates Team New Zealand would take the win and control of the Final.
