Ahzai Smith and Christopher Raymond returned to the LF Wade International Airport to a Hero’s Welcome, the pair returned following successfully competing in the O’pen Bic National Championships and Fresh Water O’Pen Bic Championships in New Zealand.
Smith and Christopher Raymond stood atop of the 2017 Forward Sailing New Zealand O’pen Cup podium in their Division.
Smith won the Gold Fleet with 15 Net Points, Smith only finished outside the top three in two races in taking the overall title, he also claimed the Boy’s Under 13 title as well.
Raymond won the Silver Fleet with 12 Net Points after Ten Races, Raymond only finished outside the top two twice, he recorded 4 wins, 4 second place finishes, a 4th and a 5th.
Smith and Christopher Raymond concluded competing in the 2017 South Island Freshwater Cup in New Zealand, that saw them compete in 8 races.
Smith won the Under 13 Age Group Division with 12 Net Points, finishing first in 4 of the 8 races sailed.
Competing in the Gold Fleet Smith finished 4th with an overall score of 29 Net Points, Smith had a Second and three 3rd place finishes as his best.
Raymond finished in third place in the Silver Fleet with 21 Net Points, he recorded wins in races 5 and 6, he also recorded a 2nd place finish in the final race.
