Gig rowers from South East Cornwall will be heading across the Atlantic for an international competition.
Members of the Rame Gig Club will be taking part in the first Bermuda Regatta.
As well as rowers from the Rame Peninsula and Bermuda, there will be competitors from Devon, Holland and America.
The Cornwall rowers became involved following an informal chat with Roger Gillett, from Bermuda, who is also a member of the Rame Gig Club.
Fifteen rowers from the club and three supporters have signed up to fly to Bermuda next week.
The regatta will take place over a seven-day period.
Club chair Gill Gibson said: ‘We are grateful to Associated British Ports, based in Plymouth, where I am the port manager’s secretary. They have kindly donated £400 to enable our members to purchase specific racing vests suitable for rowing in the humidity and heat of Bermuda.’
