Trott Signs Two-Year West Ham United Contract Extension

IslandStats.com
West Ham United confirmed Nathan Trott has signed a contract extension until the summer of 2024, with a further two-year option.

The England Under 20 international goalkeeper, who made his first-team debut for the Hammers in an Emirates FA Cup third-round win over Doncaster Rovers at London Stadium in January 2021, will continue his development under the guidance of Xavi Valero and alongside experienced senior stoppers Łukasz Fabiański, Alphonse Areola and Darren Randolph.

Bermuda-born Trott, who spent last season on loan at French Ligue 2 club AS Nancy, is looking forward to continuing his journey with West Ham, having initially joined the Club in January 2016 on the recommendation of Irons legend Clyde Best.

“It’s been very positive vibes since I've been back and, seeing how the team's been performing over the last two or three years, I think it's something I've always wanted to be a part of and I'm really happy that the Club value me and have invested time in me to hopefully push me in the team in the future,” said the 23-year-old.

“I came in at 16 and I'm going on 24 next season, so it's a big part of my life and somewhere that I call home now. It's good for me to be a part of it and it’s like a big family for me. Being here so long just keeps me pushing to want to strive and help the team out, which is the same goal I’ve had since I signed the first day.

“For me, the next step will just be to try and impress as much as I can. We've got Łukasz, Alphonse and Darren here as well, so I'm just going to try and push them as much as I can. I’m at that age now when I've got a lot more experience and appearances under my belt, so I feel like I'm a lot more mature than I was and I feel like I've gotten everything I need to know. I think the next step for me is to just try and impress as much as I can in the pre-season games and hopefully catch the manager’s eye.

“I try not to think about age too much. I just think, at this time, for goalkeepers it’s a long career and 23/24 is very young for a goalkeeper. For me, I just try and not even think about the age at this point, and just try and show what I can do and my ability and see where it can take me.”

Goalkeeper coach Valero believes Trott will continue to improve and develop at West Ham.

"Nathan is a promising young goalkeeper, with a bright future,” said the Spaniard. “He’s got a fantastic attitude to his day-to-day work – he just wants to keep learning and improving, and working with the group of ‘keepers we have here at West Ham will only help his development.

“At 24, he’s still relatively young for a goalkeeper. We’re excited about seeing him progress over the course of the coming years.”

Born on the remote British island territory of Bermuda in the North Atlantic Ocean, Trott began his career as an outfield player. He switched to goalkeeper at the age of 15 and joined West Ham two years later. Since then, he has developed into a confident all-round goalkeeper blessed with superb athleticism, confident handling and eye-catching shot-stopping ability.

Those qualities saw Trott excel during a loan spell with AFC Wimbledon in EFL League Two in the 2019/20 season and capped by England at U20 level on eight occasions.

A veteran of 60 appearances for West Ham’s U23s, Trott embarked on a second loan spell at Nancy last term, playing 23 times and adding French to the English and Spanish languages he could already speak fluently.

After a summer visit home to visit family and friends in Bermuda, Trott has returned to the Club and is now training in St Andrews in preparation for the 2022/23 season ahead.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to wish Nathan the very best for his future at the Club.
