Kane Crichlow came off the bench, as Watford bowed out of the Carabao Cup and they can have few complaints. They were beaten fair and square by a hungrier, sharper, and busier Newport County side who claimed their second Championship scalp of the competition.
Tristan Abrahams put Newport County ahead in the 18th minute when he converted from the penalty with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner.
Newport County doubled their lead in the 28th minute when Joss Labadie’s left-footed shot from outside the box flew into the top right corner.
Watford would get themselves back into the match in the 54th minute when substitute Adalberto Peñaranda converted from the penalty with a right-footed shot to the center of the goal.
In the 63rd minute, Newport County’s two-goal lead was restored when Padraig Amond had a footed shot from the center of the box go into the bottom left corner.
Crichlow replaces Ignacio Pussetto in the 84th minute.
NATHAN TROTT
Nathan Trott was an unused substitute as West Ham United advanced to the next round of the Carabao Cup, with a 5 – 1 win over Hull City, but the biggest news on the night came from a club statement during the first half.
West Ham released a statement during the first half of their game against Hull City - and confirmed Issa Diop, Josh Cullen, and manager David Moyes have all tested positive for coronavirus this evening.
The evening was largely a comfortable one, with West Ham completely dominant in a first half scarce of many chances, Robert Snodgrass and Sebastien Haller converted West Ham United’s two clearest opportunities.
Then, in the second, the game well and truly opened up, with West Ham creating chance after chance and eventually grabbing their third from the penalty spot, Yarmolenko converted after Haller was hauled down from a corner.
Hull City showed some intent in the final quarter of the match and scored through Mallik Wilks, but further injury-time strikes from Haller and Yarmolenko leant the scoreline a greater degree of authenticity in the end.
KOLE HALL
Kole Hall and his Radcliffe teammates had a memorable second-half comeback book their place into the next round of the Emirates FA Cup with a come from behind 5 – 3 victory over Workington.
Workington’s Scott Allison gave them the lead in the 13th minute when he chipped an advancing Radcliffe goalkeeper, but in the 27th minute, the score was level as Andy Owens slammed home from close range after a quick turn in the box.
Two minutes into the second half, Workington went back in front when Ruben Jerome tapped home from close range. In the 52nd minute, Rhain Hellawell made way for Hall, but in the 66th minute, Workington went ahead 3 – 1 when Brad Carroll caught the Radcliffe defense out and fired home.
Radcliffe would fight back to get into the match in the 71st minute when captain Matthew Crothers scored from a perfect free-kick into the top corner, and then in the 79th minute Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro tapped home from close range to grab the equalizer for Radcliffe.
On the stroke of full-time Radcliffe would take the lead as Matty Crothers fired a rocket right into the top corner, and then in stoppage time, Andy Owens scored to make it 5 – 3.
