Wells & Bristol City Struggles Continue with a Home Defeat

IslandStats.com
Nahki Wells and his Bristol City teammates fell to late defeat at the hands of Queens Park Rangers.

Alex Scott's third goal of the season had seen City take the lead, but a Charlie Austin penalty and a late Yoann Barbet header, either side of Andy King’s sending off in the 56th minute, meant QPR took all three points.

City took an early lead for the second game running in BS3 when Alex Scott’s deflected effort found the top corner inside the third minute. Andi Weimann drove at the heart of the Hoops defence before the ball trickled the way of Scott, who finished with aplomb to get the Robins off to a more than ideal start.

Antoine Semenyo went close a second minutes later, when he back-heeled Callum O'Dowda’s driven cross goalbound, only for Seny Dieng to block it with his leg. That same duo combined again soon after, but Semenyo could only divert O'Dowda’s delivery wide.

O’Dowda was again involved when his floated ball into the box fell to Matty James, who’s half-volley from just inside the area was palmed away by Dieng. City then thought they should've had a penalty when Jimmy Dunne brought down Scott, but the referee waved any claims away.

George Tanner pulled up late in the first half, forcing Pearson into an early chance, with Rob Atkinson replacing him and Vyner switching to right-back.

The Hoops were then awarded a penalty when Pring was adjudged to have fouled Luke Amos minutes away from the half-time whistle. Charlie Austin dispatched the spot kick to level the scores at the break.

The visitors had the first effort of the second period, when Lee Wallace’s goal bound volley was headed away by Matty James.

City were then reduced to ten men just before the hour mark when Andy King was shown a second yellow card for pulling Johansen back as he looked to counter, after he'd already been booked in a dispute over the awarding of the earlier penalty.

Semenyo was causing Rangers’ defence all sorts of trouble, this time beating Barbet and flashing a ball across the six-yard box, which no-one in a red shirt could connect with.

Kalas made a brilliant last-ditch challenge to prevent substitute Lydon Dykes from putting QPR ahead, after he'd been played through by Albert Adomah.

Amos then swept his free header into the Atyeo Stand after Rob Dickie’s good cross found him in space. O’Leary was called into action to twice deny QPR, first saving from Willock and then from Field.

The visitors then snatched all three points with a last-gasp winner as Yoann Barbet headed Johansen’s set-piece into the far corner of the net.
