CONCACAF Women’s Championship Qualifying resumes this Saturday, as nine teams from Central America and the Caribbean look to punch their ticket to the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship.
The CONCACAF Women´s Championship 2018 CWC will determine the three CONCACAF teams to the Confederation that automatically qualify for next summer’s 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, while the fourth-place team will play a playoff against Argentina, third place finisher from Conmebol in a World Cup playoff.
Things begin on Saturday with the Concacaf Caribbean Women’s qualifiers, as five teams – Cuba, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua and Barbuda and Bermuda – will be gunning for the top three spots and berths in the 2018 CWC.
If last May’s first round of Caribbean qualifying is any indication, fans can expect plenty of goalscoring fireworks from these teams.
Of note are the attacking forces of Cuba, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. The Cubans poured in 22 goals in the first round of qualifying, while the Reggae Girlz tallied 18, led by Khadija Shaw, who leads CWC Qualifying with eight goals.
Not to be outdone is Trinidad and Tobago, who scored a whopping 27 goals in qualifying, including 10-0 and 13-0 victories over the U.S. Virgin Islands and Grenada, respectively.
