Nahki Wells to Play for Burnley Tomorrow

IslandStats.com
Nahki Wells will make his first appearance in a Burnley shirt in a Professional Development League match at Nottingham Forest.

Wells and Dean Marney will play as over-age players in Michael Duff’s side, with Burnley boss Sean Dyche confirming they will get minutes under their belts to aid their recovery from injuries.

“We’re really pleased,” Dyche told Clarets Player HD. “They’re two slightly different stories, but it will be great to see them both getting some game-time.”

Marney has been out of action since sustaining an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury for the second time at Arsenal in January.

The long-serving midfielder, 33, subsequently underwent successful surgery and after putting in the hours through a lengthy rehabilitation programme will make a welcome return by playing a maximum of 45 minutes.

Wells, meanwhile, will play for the first time since his arrival from Huddersfield Town at the end of August after returning to fitness following minor surgery to remove a screw inserted into his foot during an operation earlier in his career.

Dyche added: “Wells was fit from last season, came into pre-season and needed this minor situation sorting out.

“It’s been careful as you go, but he’s been progressing nicely and going into more football-style action with a game.

“Deano is slightly different. It’s the end of the beginning, if you like. There’s no rush for him still.

“It’s an early fixture for him to just find his way a little bit.

“He’s got to build up those layers of game time. It’s good to see Deano back out there with us regularly, training with the first team, and his next step is this game coming up.”

Dyche also confirmed that striker Jon Walters will remain out of action for a number of weeks to give him time to overcome a knee problem.
