The Bermuda Football Association (BFA) is pleased to announce that the Gombey Warriors will take on the Canada Men’s National Team at the National Sports Center on Sunday, January 22nd, 2017. Coach Andrew Bascome will again lead the team in this International Friendly match.
This match is being organized to reaffirm our presence in the international arena, in particular, within our CONCACAF region, continue to build on the strategic aims and objectives as it relates to our National Teams programming and brings together aspiring national team players as the Association builds toward the next cycle of FIFA World Cup and CFU Caribbean Cup Qualifying tournaments.
Details on ticket sales for the match will be released shortly. We ask that everyone come out to support the team and the match and cheer on your Gombey Warriors!
The Canadian Soccer Association says the national team will gather Jan. 10 for a two-week camp starting in the U.S. before heading to Bermuda. The roster, drawn mainly from North American-based players, will be announced in early January, with 18 players travelling to Bermuda.
"The international match will come at the back end of our extended January camp," interim head coach Michael Findlay said in a statement. "We wanted to arrange a game that was close in vicinity and also gave us a good step from which to start of the season."
Canada, ranked No. 118th, in the world, is 4-0-4 all-time against No. 187 Bermuda, winning 3-0 the last time they met in March 2007.
