Bermuda English Footballers Round Up

Chris Lowe celebrates with Wells

NAHKI WELLS – Huddersfield Town

A first league goal in approaching seven years for unlikely match winner Jonathan Hogg sealed a third win of the embryonic Sky Bet Championship season for Town at home to Barnsley on a wet and windy Saturday afternoon at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The 27-year-old, who has been outstanding in his Terrier-like performances in central midfield to begin the campaign, was rested by David Wagner today – but emerged from the bench to become the fourth substitute in as many league games to net a significant strike at the death.

Earlier in the game, left back Chris Löwe scored a great debut goal in English football to give his side the lead at the interval, only for center back Alfie Mawson to showcase Barnsley’s strength at set-plays.

With Town fans rocking the John Smith’s Stadium at kick-off, Town started well. Nahki Wells – back in the line-up as his steps back from a pre-season knee issue continue – almost played Rajiv van La Parra through on goal and then visiting ‘keeper Davies almost spilled Tommy Smith’s cross straight to Sean Scannell, only for Josh Scowen to clear at the last moment.

RAI SIMONS – Chesterfield United

Rai Simons was an unused substitute as Chesterfield fell to their first Sky Bet League 1 loss of the season, undeservedly, as Adam El-Abd's late header stole a 2-1 win for Shrewsbury Town.

Jay O'Shea gave the away side a great start with a composed finish, cancelled out before the break by Junior Brown. A strong second half showing saw Chesterfield go close on numerous occasions, but El-Abd scored with a late header to claim the points for Shrewsbury

KACY MILAN BUTTERFIELD – Walsall

Kieron Morris’ first goal of the season couldn’t prevent Kacy Milan Butterfield’s Walsall teammates from falling to back-to-back defeats as Nicky Ajose scored twice to give Charlton the victory.

Butterfield was not in the team as the former Swindon striker bundled Charlton ahead just before half-time, only for Morris to equalize on 72 minutes with a low strike.

But Charlton secured the points two minutes later, when Josh Magennis squared for Ajose to tap in from close range.

REGGIE LAMBE – Carlisle United

Reggie Lambe and his Carlisle United teammates maintained their unbeaten start to the season but they twice had to come from behind on a blustery day in Cambridgeshire with a 2 – 2 draw with Cambridge United.

Cambridge United got a goal apiece from Leon Legge and Luke Berry, while Carlisle United got a goal each from Jason Kennedy and Charlie Wyke. Lambe, who had just gone down injured was replaced in the 77th minute.
