NAHKI WELLS – Huddersfield Town
Huddersfield piled further frustration on Tyneside by defeating Championship favorites Newcastle 2-1 at St James' Park.
In front of a sell-out 52,000 crowd, Huddersfield made it two wins from two and leave Rafael Benitez's Magpies nursing the wounds of consecutive reversals.
Striker Nahki Wells curled David Wagner's team in front on the stroke of half-time when he was afforded too much freedom in the Newcastle box.
But Dwight Gayle headed his first goal for Newcastle since a summer switch from Crystal Palace just after the hour, even though it came from his own missed penalty, to provide hope.
Huddersfield, who defended strongly throughout, responded by hitting the winner eight minutes from time on the break when substitute Jack Payne scored with his first touch to send the travelling supporters home happy.
RIA SIMONS – Chesterfield United
Rai Simons watched from the bench as a brilliant attacking display gave the Chesterfield the perfect opening to their league campaign as they defeated Swindon Town 3-1 at the Proact.
KACY MILAN BUTTERFIELD – Walsall
Kacy Milan Butterfield was not in the Walsall team as they drew their season opener 0 – 0 with Oldham Athletic.
REGGIE LAMBE – Carlisle United
Carlisle United manager Keith Curle went for an unchanged side for the visit of Plymouth Argyle and it was more of the same from a team which has knitted together well across all areas of the pitch as they worked their way to a well-deserved first league win of the season.
With Carlisle United coming away with a 1 – 0 win over Plymouth Argyle with a goal from Reggie Lambe in the 37th minute.
