More Clubs Line Up for Wells Services

IslandStats.com
Huddersfield Town say it’s business as usual for Nahki Wells amid speculation over more interest from Championship rivals Derby County and Norwich City.

The Bermuda international striker is on the way back to full fitness after a knee injury and Town head coach David Wagner has said he hopes to give him a first appearance of the season in Tuesday’s English Football League Cup first-round tie at Shrewsbury Town.

Wells, 26, joined Town for a then club-record £1.3m from Bradford City in January 2014 and has top scored in each of the last two seasons with 14 and 18 goals respectively.

Overall he has notched 39 times for the club – after 53 goals in two and a half seasons at Bradford.

Town, who have the player contracted until 2018, are under no financial pressure to sell, and say no bid has been received.

Derby manager Nigel Pearson has yet to add to his squad since arriving this summer.

He already has strikers Darren Bent, Chris Martin, Nick Blackman, Andreas Weimann, Johnny Russell and Abdoul Camara at his disposal.

Former Town manager Chris Powell is assistant to Pearson, and obviously knows all about Wells’ attributes.

The Rams bought midfielder Jacob Butterfield from Town for £5m during last year’s August transfer window.

Norwich have plenty of funds after being relegated from the Premier League and therefore gaining a parachute payment.
