PHC Coach Wade Resigns - Morton Takes Over

Morton will look to continue Wade's Development
IslandStats.com
Following a meeting already scheduled for this evening, Michael Trott the Pembroke Hamilton Club Vice President & Sports Director released the following statement following the resignation of Mark Wade.

Last week www.islandstats.com asked PHC for a statement regarding the resignation of Wade and we were told that a statement was forthcoming.

Trott’s statement reads, “The Pembroke Hamilton Club (PHC) is excited to announce the appointment of Scott Morton as the new Head Coach for our Senior football team. Morton has a wealth of experience, having coached at North Village Community Club and Western Stars Community Club and has led his teams to multiple winning seasons spanning from 2000-2009.

He is a quality coach and an outstanding person who will enable the continued development of the senior team from the exiting Coach, Mark Wade.

The Pembroke Hamilton Club Executive wish to take this opportunity to thank Wade for his dedication, loyalty and services provided and we will support his future endeavors.”

www.islandstats.com asked Wade for a quote from a few questions.

Q. What would you say contributed to your decision to step down?

A. I advised the Vice President, Michael Trott, at the beginning of the season that this would be my last season coaching at PHC. I felt now based on the evolution of the club, the team and players that now was a good time to bring someone else in with a fresh perspective to continue to positive changes within the team.

Q. Looking back at your time in charge is there something you would want to do different?

A. I don't think I would do anything differently any mistakes are learning opportunities so I am proud of my work at PHC. My goal when I started was to change the club to a more modern way of playing the game. Argentina is my world cup team! That should say it all. The direct style of play was part of the PHC culture from top to bottom. Changing that culture is 14 years in the making and there is still some work to be done. We have just updated our Curriculum & Syllabus to aid in the renaissance and the club is poised for continued success. I am happy to have been at the forefront of that renaissance.

Q. You had several players abroad in school during your time incharge and they are now starting to return, do you feel the time is right for a new coach with such talent available on a weekly basis?

A. Education is a large part of PHC youth program. The education program and PHC foundation Scholarship is the corner stone of what we do. It was very tempting to stay and coach players who I have seen enter the program at 4 years old. They are a quality bunch of players on and off the field and there are more to come. However, the senior program is in a very good space right now. Arguably a good time to pass the senior team on to another capable coach. Scott Morton ticked all the boxes for us. Mike and I were impressed with him from our first meeting. And I was well aware of all of the qualities he brings to the senor coach role.

Q. Are you looking more on the administration side of things now such as a possible run for the Presidency of the Bermuda Football Association?

A. Nice try.... Who knows what the future holds :>)
