The Somerset Old Boy’s will have to wait another year to get the better of the St. George’s Old Boy’s as they defending champions won on kicks from the penalty mark to retain the RO Smith Over-40s All-Stars Football Classic Trophy at Wellington Oval.
Somerset should have been going to the break the happier of the two teams, but saves Troy Hall in goal for St. George’s and the upright denied the Somerset team the lead, but Delbert Minors converted from the penalty spot in the first half to give St. George’s a 1 – 0 lead.
The second half saw Somerset pile on the pressure that eventually paid off when Dwight Basden scored from close range, the two teams then traded chances resulting in the match needing to be decided with kicks from the penalty mark.
Hall was able to save three of the Somerset Penalties and he scored his teams winner.
