Smith, Wells & Lambe English Round Up

IslandStats.com
A day after Gloucester City Football Club announced the signing of former Crawley Town and current Bermuda International striker Jonté Smith, Nathan Jarman celebrated his birthday in style as he took two chances brilliantly to see Gainsborough pick up their first win in five games as they defeated Gloucester City 2-0 at Whaddon Road.

Gainsborough took the lead after Nathan Jarman collected the ball on the edge of the area and curled a sumptuous effort into the far corner that left Jasbir Singh with absolutely no chance.

Trinity had a second and it was birthday boy Jarman again. City switched off as they looked for a free kick but the referee was having none of it and Jarman was the only one to react as he latched onto it and rifled the ball fiercely past Singh.

Gloucester knew they had to get an early goal and new signing Smith played a lovely one-two with Sam Avery down the wing who then played a driven low cross to Anoruo who flicked it over from close range.

Smith was then gifted the ball 25 yards from the Trinity goal and was allowed time to pick a shot but despite sending Budtz sprawling to his right, the Gainsborough stopper always had it covered and saw it wide.

Smith was a bright spark amongst few and he continued to be Gloucester’s playmaker as he knocked the ball down to Anoruo 12 yards out from goal but again his effort was deflected over.

NAHKI WELLS

Emyr Huws scored two and made a third as Nahki Wells and his Huddersfield teammates clinched back-to-back victories with a 4-1 home win over fellow strugglers Bolton.

Welsh midfielder Huws, turned the game around after Town went behind to Liam Feeney's strike after just two minutes and 20 seconds.

Former Swansea and Manchester City star Huws, on a season-long loan from Wigan, equalized for Town on the stroke of half-time. He then set up Mustapha Carayol before getting his second with a flying header. Joel Lynch made it four for Huddersfield with six minutes remaining.

Bolton finished the game with 10 men after defender Derik Osede was sent off for a second bookable offence a minute from time after bringing down substitute Wells on the edge of the box.

REGGIE LAMBE

Luton earned their first home win of the League Two season as Craig Mackail-Smith's penalty just before the hour was enough to beat Reggie Lambe and his Mansfield teammates.

It was the striker himself who won the spot-kick when he latched on to Paddy McCourt's wonderful through ball and was hauled down by last man Ryan Tafazolli, who was fortunate to stay on the field with just a booking. Mackail-Smith made no mistake from 12 yards, confidently hammering in the penalty.

Lambe started the match on the bench and came on in the 54th minte.
