Chesterfield Excited about World Cup Player Simons

IslandStats.com
He may have yet to taste Football League action but new Chesterfield striker Rai Simons arrives at the Proact with international experience reports Phil Tooley of the Derbyshire Times.

The 19-year-old will report back for his first re-season next week, buoyed by appearances in three World Cup qualifiers with Bermuda.

Simons followed the same path into League football as Sheffield United’s Che Adams, after impressing at Evo-Stik side Ilkeston.

While he awaits his Chesterfield debut, the forward has this summer achieved something which most footballers do not.

Simons started in Bermuda’s 5-0 demolition of the Bahamas alongside Huddersfield Town’s Nahki Wells before sitting out the second leg, a 3-0 triumph.

He was then a second half substitute as Bermuda battled out a superb goalless draw with Guatemala in the next stage and came off the bench for the final half hour in the decisive second leg which brought a 1-0 defeat with Wells absent.

Simons will be battling with the likes of Mani Dieseruvwe, Byron Harrison and Armand Gnanduillet to make it into Dean Saunders’ XI.

The attack looks set to be spearheaded by new signing Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, twice top scorer in the Championship and Simons will be keen to catch the eye of the new Chesterfield boss as he looks to partner the former Wolverhampton Wanderers ace.
