Rotherham Boss Worried About Wells

IslandStats.com
Rotherham boss Steve Evans is worried Huddersfield striker Nahki Wells could hit top form against his side on Boxing Day.

Wells and Rotherham have regularly gone head-to-head with each other over the past few seasons when the striker was at Bradford.

Evans' men always got the better of that battle as Wells failed to score in six games against the South Yorkshire club - on the losing side on each occasion - before moving to Huddersfield last January for a sizeable fee.

That is not a record for Rotherham to get unsettled about but Wells did little to endear himself to the Rotherham fans last season when he tweeted that he was "buzzing" after Evans' men were beaten 4-0 at home to Swindon in Sky Bet League One.

Wells will get the chance to annoy Rotherham fans further when Chris Powell's men travel to New York Stadium on Friday in the Championship, with the Bermudian hoping to end a seven-game scoring drought.

Despite his lack of past success, Evans is wary of the 24-year-old's threat.

"I'm not going to tempt fate, because the one thing that Nahki Wells is a fantastic goalscorer and someone who has caused a lot of teams trouble," Evans said.

"That encouraged Mark Robins and Dean Hoyle to pay £1.8million for him. When somebody pays that amount of money for you it tells you you've got talent."

Rotherham will play in front of a full house and Evans is eagerly anticipating a festive Yorkshire derby.

"These are wonderful occasions and should never forget to embrace them," he added. "I don't need to repeat the names of the clubs we played in League Two or League One in Decembers gone.

"But look at this December, Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest, Wigan Athletic, Huddersfield Town. It's fantastic.

"We are very fortunate at the New York, more home games than not, we have a full house, and passionate support who are desperate for their team to be a part of the Championship going forward.

"I can't wait."
