BFA Treasurer Griffith to Step Down

IslandStats.com
During the Bermuda Football Association’s 2013/14 Awards Ceremony, David Sabir the Bermuda Football Association’s General Secretary announced that the current Treasure of the Bermuda Football Association Andrew Griffith, was stepping down from his position at the next Annual General Meeting.

Griffith said, “I am grateful for having had the opportunity to have had an impact on football in Bermuda, but at this stage of my life, I could not commit to serve another four years on the BFA Executive. Therefore, I felt that it would be prudent to step aside to allow for someone else to experience the joys that I have been so fortunate to experience. I believe that the BFA is in a strong position in terms of its financial reporting, accounting oversight and system of controls. I look back on where we / BFA have come from and where we are now and I am extremely proud of the progress. However, I believe that a new set of eyes with a different perspective and fresh energy can take BFA to even greater heights.

But this does not mean that I will walk away from football and never have anything to do with football. This will probably be impossible for me to do as it is ingrained in me. I am still a member of both Somerset Cricket Club and North Village Community Club. I will become more involved at the club level. I am a newly elected member of the NVCC Board of Directors and will work with the Board to oversee the activities of the club. I am also a player/manager of the NVCC Masters team so my Saturdays will still be devoted to football – on TV and on the field.

I have also committed to remain on the sideline with the BFA Executive and whomever is the new Treasurer to ensure that there is sufficient knowledge so that the transition is as smooth as possible. I look forward to what successive BFA Executives can accomplish as I can fully appreciate the size of the task that comes along with trying to make progress – and many times this is a thankless task that is coupled with a LOT of second-guessing. But if anything was easy then everyone would do it.

Therefore I wish BFA and football in Bermuda every success and I will always be an advocate.”
