Nahki Wells scored in Hudderfield 1-1 Draw with Charlton Athletic at the John Smith’s Stadium in their English Championship match.
In the 50th minute Wells hit a right footed shot low through the middle from the center 6 yard and scored.
Wells believes it was a point earned against Charlton despite the late equalizer.
Igor Vetokele’s 92nd minute strike cancelled out Wells' opener after Town had battled hard with ten men during the second period.
And despite the setback, the Bermudian believes there is plenty to build on ahead of Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.
“It feels like we have won the game even though we haven’t, there are a lot of positives that we can take from the match,” Nahki told htafc.com.
“We gave the fans something to get excited about because lately they have expected a lot and we haven’t delivered. We played excellently and had a penalty decision gone our way towards the end of the game we would have won, but as it was Charlton went up the other end and scored.
“To get a point from today’s match, having played for 45 minutes with ten men, is a positive.”
Murray Wallace was the man dismissed by referee Tim Robinson for a professional foul on Vetokele; it looked harsh at the time and Wells explained that it hit the Terriers hard.
“It was really tough to take; the timing couldn’t have been any worse,” he said. “We went in at half time knowing that we had a really tough task on our hands. However, we defended superbly and broke at every opportunity. It looked like we would win after nicking a goal, but unfortunately we could only take a point.”
Sean Scannell’s resurgent form has been a major positive during Mark Lillis' reign as Caretaker Manager and Wells is delighted to see his fellow attacker troubling the opposition.
“Everybody is backing him and I think he believes in himself. He is one of the most talented players that I have played with and on his day he is unstoppable. It is good to see him playing in the fashion that he is and I am sure that he will only continue to improve.”
The Terriers' response since the opening day 4-0 loss has been impressive and Wells puts that down to the influence of Lillis and the two Steves (Thompson and Eyre).
“It was tough to see the manager leave (Mark Robins), it is the first time in my career that it has happened. These things happen in football though, and Mark Lillis, Steve Thompson and Steve Eyre have lifted our spirits and at the moment are getting a lot out of us. They believe in us and we have responded to it.”
The match also saw Nahki’s fellow striker James Vaughan make a return from injury and he looked sharp, playing as a lone attacker.
“I can’t wait to play alongside Vaughany, hopefully it will happen soon,” explained Wells. “It is still early in the season and it is nice to see James back in action. We couldn’t have two strikers on the pitch with just ten men and he put a shift in when he came on.”
