Wells' Manager Robins Leaves Club

Picture curtsey of Huddersfield Examiner

Nahki Wells Manager Mark Robins has left Huddersfield Town.

The move is by mutual consent and comes in the wake of the 4-0 opening-day home Championship defeat by Bournemouth.

Robins, who called the performance a "disgrace", met with the board after the match, and it was agreed his departure would be in the best interests of all parties.

The 44-year-old former Manchester United player, who previously managed Rotherham, Barnsley and Coventry, had been at the helm since February 2013, when he replaced Simon Grayson.

Town needed a last-day draw against Barnsley to clinch Championship survival at the end of that season and finished 17th last time around.

They conceded a goal just 24 seconds into yesterday's game.

With a Capital One Cup first-round tie at Chesterfield on Tuesday, the squad will train today under the guidance of assistant manager Steve Thompson and first-team coach Steve Eyre.

Town chairman Dean Hoyle said: "Mark has put his all into the job over the last 16 months and made a big contribution to the club.

"He arrived at a difficult time and immediately impacted to keep us in the Championship.

"Mark's approach to this has been refreshing.

"He has always put the club before himself and worked tirelessly on the training ground to change our way of playing and we have seen that come to fruition.

"He will be someone I personally, and we as a club, will always remain in contact with."
