The much ignored Bermuda Senior Women’s National team began play in the Inaugural CFU Women’s Caribbean Cup, which also serve as the Women’s World Cup Qualifiers with a convincing win over the host.
If the Men’s National Football team was playing, more than likely the daily would have had featured players, updates and whatever else they could do, but the BERMUDA Women’s National team have the opportunity to qualify for the next stage of the Women’s World Cup and they are ignored, maybe the reporters are still got tears in the eyes from the accomplishments of the islands athletes that recently brought back medals in Sports they can’t bother to attend when the events go on locally!
In the game after several chances went, Bermuda finally took the lead in the 14th minute when Shuantae Todd found the back of the net, two minutes later it was 2 – 0, Todd scoring her second goal of the game, this one coming from a cross that Todd was able to redirect and double the Bermuda lead.
Bermuda captain Cheyra Bell made it 3 – 0 in the 27th minute, although several other chances were created Bermuda took a 3 – 0 lead into the halftime break.
In the 54th minute Bermuda went up 4 – 0 when Aaliyah Nolan found the back of the net and then Todd completed her hat-trick with her third goal of the game in the 67th minute as Bermuda earned a 5 – 0 win over the host Turks and Cariocas in the opener of the Inaugural CFU Women’s Caribbean Cup.
Bermuda made three changes in the match, with Akeyla Furbert replaced by Khyla Brangman, Aaliyah Nolan made way for Jaylen bean and Dominique Richardson came off for Zahra Gibbons.
