Smith and PS Kemi Go Down on his Debut

Jonte Smith and his PS Kemi teammates lined up to play in the Finnish Cup fifth round, against the renowned Vortex Turku at home. However, it was the visitors who went to the next round, the match finally ended with Turku winning on Kicks from the Penalty Mark. The two teams ended regulation time locked at 1-1 and with no additional overtime goals saw Turku win 4 – 2 in the penalty shootout.

The home team started the game strongly and the first ten minutes keeping Turku on the defensive end . Dangerous situations were created by Kemi, however, eight times the champion of Finland Turku would soon get back into the game.

At the end of the first half PS Kemi point man Smith header from close range was saved by the Turku goalkeeper, but on the stroke of half time the home side went 1-0 lead. Thomas Tyystälä’s corner was met by Bitsindou David who headed the ball in the net. The home side's joy was short-lived, as the extra time of the first half saw the visitors level. Matias Louanto’s free kick saw Alex de John headed the ball away.

Second half of the match was level significantly lower than in the opening half. Billy Lons shot from close range was saved by Uschanoff. Just before full time Smith had a chance to solve the game, but once again Uschanoff his shot was saved.

The best chance created in extra time fell to Smith, who chipped the ball past the advancing keeper. The crowd rose hoping to see the ball go into the net but a defender cleared the ball before it could go across the line.

It was then down to the penalty shootout.
