Sussex won the toss and elected to bat, a brutal 44-ball 82 from Luke Wright, with solid support from Bopara who scored 34 off 24 and Rawlins scored 34 off 21, as well as a superb seven-ball cameo of 30 – including four sixes and a four from George Garton took Sussex to a mammoth 216/4.
Middlesex made a valiant start to their chase, keeping up with the rate for much of the powerplay, but as wickets began to tumble they fell away, as they were bowled out for 174. Adam Lenham was the pick of the Sussex bowlers with figures of 4-0-29-4, while Rawlins bowled 4-0-34-2.
