Smith Finishes 4th in NACAC Championships

Jamaican Ramone Bailey for a second week in a row snatched a Medal from Tyrone Smith.

It was during the CAC Games in Colombia when Bailey snatched the Gold Medal from Smith on his final attempt, this time during 2018 NACAC Championships at the Varsity Stadium in Toronto, Bailey snatched the Bronze Medal away from Smith on his final attempt.

During the NACAC Championships Men’s Long, Smith finished 4th, with a top leap of 7.98m.

Marquis Dendy from the USA recorded the top leap of 8.29m, Tajay Gayle from Jamaica was second with a leap of 8.24m and Bailey leaped 8.09m on his final attempt to finish third.

Smith had a leap of 7.57m on his first attempt, which was followed by back to back fouls, Smith then had a leap of 7.21m on his fourth attempt, before leaping 7.82m, Smith would leap 7.98m on his final attempt.

Smith said, “6th round heroics were not quite enough today. Bowed out in 4th place just outside of the medals. I'm happy I was able to navigate through the wind and land a better jump than how it was going.”
