Emmerson Carrington and his umpiring partner were busy as ICC World Cricket League Division 5 qualifiers Cayman Islands easily defeated Argentina in brilliant sunshine and high humidity at Hurlingham Club. Argentina won the toss and elected to bat in the first game of the tournament that conditions allowed for an on-time start.
Argentina lost 2 early wickets, including Day 1 Man of the Match Matias Paterlini for 3 that saw them slump to 19/2. The locals struggled to really get going at all in their innings, being bundled out for 96 in 36 overs with Pablo Ferguson top scoring with 26. Cayman’s bowlers Corey Cato, Neil Coley, and Kevon Bazil each took 2 wickets.
In the Argentina inning the umpires adjudged 3 LBW’s and 2 Run Outs.
Cayman went in to bat prior to the lunch break and came out swinging, with 25 off the first 3 overs. Argentina looked to be back in the game when they stumped Paul Chin first ball after lunch to have the Caymanians 53/5, before Deno McInnis with 28 runs and Conroy Wright’s 24 from 22 guided the tourists home. Daniel Sutton was the pick of the Argentine bowlers with 2/11 as Cayman cruised home in the 21st over.
It was during the Cayman Inning that the umpires adjudged 2 LBW, a Run Out and a Stumping.
