Matt Fisher will take a break from England’s Under-19 series against India in Mumbai on Friday, having been highly encouraged by the performances of his team so far.
That means Max Holden, the Middlesex opener who will start the 2017 season on loan to Northamptonshire, will take the captaincy earlier than expected on the tour, as he had already been appointed to lead the team in the four-day games – with Fisher confident of returning for the fourth one-day game on Monday.
Fisher picked out a number of impressive individual performances, starting with the century from Sussex allrounder Delray Rawlins in the opening game.
“I hadn’t heard much about him before I came out here, but having seen him in the flesh I can’t believe how much strength he’s got, as well as awareness of the game. I was lucky to bat with him for quite a bit and he absolutely smashes it – I’ve never seen someone hit the ball so hard in under-19 cricket.
