Kamau Leverock was in the Somerset Second XI starting lineup as they were in Championship action today when they began a three-day game against Essex at Halstead.
Somerset won the toss and elected to bat.
Openers Tom Abell and Eddie Byrom put on 32 for the opening wicket before the former was trapped LBW by Sam Cook for nine. Byrom reached 28 before becoming Cook’s second victim of the morning with the score on 49. Somerset had reached 100 when Tim Rouse was trapped in front by Aaron Nijjar for 23. Lewis Gregory and Adam Hose then ensured that the visitors reached lunch on 130 for three.
After the break Gregory went on to make 47 whilst 53 from Alex Barrow and an unbeaten 80 from Adam Hose moved Somerset on to 288 for six at tea.
After tea Hose went on to complete his century whilst a useful knock from Sam Underdown (35) helped ensure that Somerset were all out for 357 with Hose unbeaten on 118.
Leverock was trapped LBW for 2 off just three deliveries.
The home side lost two early wickets, both to Gregory, and slipped to 18 for two but Nijjar reached 33 not out at the close as Essex finished on 62 for two on day one, Leverock bowled 4-0-17-0.
