During the Cup Match presentation at the Somerset Cricket Club, the President of the Somerset Cricket Club Alfred Maybury announced that Allan Douglas Jr. was the Safe Hands Award winner, without even taking a catch in the match.

Douglas who many people feel should be named the game’s MVP, will be the first to pick up the 18 year old award without taking a catch.

The Award was named in honor of living legend Cal Symonds and when it was introduced it was for a player during the match that took the best catch of the game.

Douglas is also in contention for the game’s MVP alongside Janeiro Tucker who helped guide the Somerset Cricket Club to a first inning lead of 106 scoring his 5th century of the Classic.

Douglas scored 77 runs in the St. George’s Cricket Club first inning putting on a 119 run 5th wicket partnership with Lionel Cann moving them the fifth best 5th wicket partnership and then returned bowling figures of 19-1-64-5 in the Somerset Cricket Club inning, he then finished off scoring 33 runs in his second inning.

Ironically Douglas Jr. scored one more run than his father did in a Cup Match Classic, Allan Douglas Sr. scored 76 not out on the same wicket when he shared a record breaking 98 run 9th wicket partnership with Clarkie Trott back in 1990.
