The Digicel & BTC U12 Super Summer Series will be in a zonal format with BCB appointed coaches culminating with an All-Star East v West final. The games will be played in the popular T20 format on Wednesday evenings at locations across the country.
BCB CEO, Neil Speight, said: “It is very exciting that Digicel & BTC have partnered with the BCB to help develop our youth cricket program. The U12 age group features the highest number of players of all our programs and I know that the young boys and girls are always looking for more opportunities to enjoy our great national sport. I thank Digicel & BTC for providing a program that gives children a constructive and fun way to continue their cricket development during the long summer vacation break.”
Robin Seale, CEO of Digicel & BTC said: “The Digicel brand is synonymous with cricket throughout the Caribbean so it is appropriate that we partner with the BCB to provide this exciting competition for Bermudian youth. We have a long tradition of involvement in cricket here through BTCs sponsorship of the Cricket Umpires Association, Digicel with Eastern Country Cricket and previous involvement with BCB youth cricket. The BCB deserves a lot of credit for their summer programs and we’re delighted to be part of something that benefits the island’s youth.”
The Hon. Minister Sylvan Richards, JP, MP, Minister of Social Development and Sport, said: “I am very pleased to witness another valuable program for our young people. My congratulations and thanks to Digicel & BTC for providing a platform for our young boys and girls to enjoy cricket throughout the summer break. The sport of cricket is an incredibly effective tool to deliver life skills to our community; opportunities like this provide an important platform for our children to embrace the values of teamwork, respect and healthy lifestyle. I will be following the series with interest and look forward to crowning the winning team next month.”
