With the recent announcement by the ICC regarding Bermuda’s ICC Americas opponents Suriname withdrawing from the forthcoming ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division 5 in Jersey, there has been some talk around the island with regards to a few things in the story.
ICC’s Player Eligibility Regulations was the reason Suriname was withdrawn, something that has been questioned around the Associates not only by www.islandstats.com but many others that go to tournaments and see for themselves just what is going on.
But the surprise is that Suriname will forfeit the US$25,000 competition grant received by all ICC Members who compete in the ICC WCL Division 5.
Over the years we often hear the Bermuda National team can’t train at the National Sports Center due to finances, the question in a conversation over the weekend was merely did this just happen or has the ICC always given funds for teams to prepare for competition?
If the ICC has been giving funds for teams to prepare why do we always hear that the team can’t afford to train at the National Sports Center.
It is expected that this will start a conversation around the clubs to get information as Bermuda constantly are behind the eight ball when it comes to tournaments.
