The Americas Regional Men’s Division 2 competition in Florida got underway with two Bermuda Cricket Umpire Association stalwarts playing key roles.
Roger Dill is performing the Tournament Referee role and Steven Douglas, is one of the Official Umpires.
On Day One, Douglas officiated the Suriname - Cayman Islands match that was reduced to 14 overs per side and it saw Suriname win by 5 runs. Cayman Islands won the toss and elected to bowl, they restricted Suriname to 84/6 in their allotted 14 overs, Cayman Islands could only manage 79/6 in their 14 overs.
Douglas and Charlie Taylor had to rule on 1 run out in the Suriname inning and a stumping and run out in the Cayman Island inning.
Douglas umpired the second game with Chabienauth Samaroo from Cayman Islands between Argentina and Suriname.
Argentina won the toss and elected to bat, they scored 96/8 in their allotted 20 overs, with Suriname scoring 97/6 in 18.3 overs to win by 4 wickets and going 2 & 0 on the day.
During the Argentina inning Douglas and Samaroo had to rule on an LBW, a run out and a stumping, while running on two run outs in the Suriname inning.
Douglas will serve as the third umpire in the morning match between Bahamas and Suriname on Friday morning November 28th morning, before joining Taylor in the middle for the Cayman Islands against Suriname match.
