National Sports Centre groundskeeper Jason Wilmot is expecting the wickets for the upcoming ICC Americas Under 17 Development Tournament to hold up for the six days of Cricket.
Despite some negative comments over the past few years about the quality of the strips at the stadium, Wilmot has been working hard to ensure that they have kept a lot of grass on it.
“The wickets will suit the speed bowlers to start the tournament and the spinners later on,” said Wilmot. “I would have love to have them play more cricket on it, so that the Under 17’s would know what to expect.”
“The wicket needs to be played on more often that is how they get better, other club grounds get used weekly and they come together quickly, but the Stadium Wicket only gets used once in a while which is not good,” continued Wilmot.
Wilmot concluded, “Our players will have no advantage playing at home, because they will be learning about the wicket just like their opponents.”
