The Bermuda Cricket Board are reporting that the Training Camp held at Christ’s Hospital School, Horsham, for the UK based National Squad players on November 2nd and 3rd was a huge success.
Kamau Leverock, Tre Manders, Terryn Fray, Christian Burgess, Onias Bascome, Greg Maybury and Delray Rawlins took part in the camp organized by ECB Level 4 coach Phil Hudson and delivered by Level 4 coach Alan Duncan and Level 3 ECB Coach Mark Nash.
Day 1 of the camp was focused on batting against spin and Twenty20 game plans. This included rotation of the strike and developing an understanding of scoring areas. In the morning there were four specific skills worked on:
• Conventional sweep
• Sweep variations (reverse sweep etc)
• Hitting down the ground on the floor by using feet to spinners
• Hitting over the top to spin using feet to spinners
Afternoon drills included a batting skill assessment on manipulation of the ball into 8 specific areas within a maximum of 30 balls. The drill and assessment was then repeated with the outcome that the player performances had improved. Day 1 finished with a debrief and a warm-down in the pool.
Day 2 was aimed at improving Twenty20 match plans and tactics including the following themes:
• Using skills learnt in Day 1
• Twenty20 game plans
• Dealing with pressure and competition
• How to play at different stages of the game
President of the Bermuda Cricket Board, Lloyd Fray said, “The Board has recognized the importance of a structured program and assessment for its overseas players. I have been very pleased by the hard work of the locally based players and I am heartened by the quality of this weekend high performance camp. The fact that Bermuda has 7 players under the age of 21 that are either in the squad or on stand-by is testament to the quality of our internationally recognized development programs and high performance pathways.”
