The 72nd edition of the prestigious Bermuda Gold Cup, alongside the Inaugural Aspen Bermuda Women's Match Racing Regatta, commenced with intense competition on the waters of Hamilton Harbour.
In the Bermuda Gold Cup, defending Bermuda Gold Cup champion Swedish skipper Johnie Berntsson established an early lead after the morning session, securing victories against Chris Poole (USA), Eric Monnin (Switzerland), Cole Tapper (Australia), and David Hood (USA). Poole and Monnin concluded the day with strong 3-1 records, while Bermuda's Kelsey Durham faced a challenging start, securing a 1-3 record with a sole victory against Tapper.
Following the action Berntsson said, “It’s great to be back here in Bermuda, we always love sailing these boats and my crew have been at the top of their game today.”
The Aspen Bermuda Women's Match Racing Regatta witnessed a dominant performance from Swedish skipper Anna Östling, who achieved three consecutive victories against Megan Thomson (New Zealand), Kristine Mauritzen (Denmark), and Juliet Costanzo (Australia).
Pauline Courtois (France) and Julia Aartsen (Netherlands) remain closely positioned in the women's regatta with 2-1 records, setting the stage for a compelling competition in the coming days.
