Russell Will Be Offered Ilkeston Contract

IslandStats.com
Ilkeston FC manager Kevin Wilson has today revealed the direction he wishes to take squad next season by announcing who he wants on his retained list.

Laurie Wilson and James Reid are definitely at the New Manor Ground next season, having already agreed new one-year deals.

Other senior players to be offered fresh contracts are Player of the Year Joe Maguire, Antwan Russell, Aaron Hooton, Ryan Wilson, Gary Ricketts, Matt Richards and Ellis Storey. Youngsters presented with terms to extend their stay are Danny Gordon, Mike Williams, Matt Baker, Scott Low and Ryan Swift.

After a promising second half to the 2012-13 season, speedy winger Kane Richards, who was on non-contract terms, has now been offered a full deal.

However, previously contracted Jack Watts, James Cullingworth, Chris Martin, Andrew Osei-Siribour, Dereece Gardner, Kieran O’Connell and Greg Pearson have not been offered re-engagement on last season’s terms.

Russell Peel, who was on non-contract terms, has also been allowed to leave.

Talks are ongoing with Alex Ford, Dan Partridge and Rob Kozluk, the latter over the possibility of an Academy coaching role in addition to his playing duties.

Manager Wilson is delighted to have midfielder Wilson and Reid on board already and said: “Laurie is a seven or eight out of 10 man every week who has played for me for a number of years and it was important to get him signed on again.

“You don’t have to sell the club to players already here and Laurie can see how professionally it’s run and what we are trying to do. He is a great example for the younger players.

“Reidy just needs to play and he knows what he needs to go away and work on over the summer. He’s a player who can turn a game with his ability, as he showed in the cup final.”

On those set to leave the club Wilson added: “Greg Pearson was one I would have liked to have offered something because he did well in the closing weeks of the season, but it’s difficult with him living up in the Halifax area.

“All the players have done exceptionally well, but I am obviously working to a budget. The door is not shut on all of those not offered re-engagement.”
