Women's Football May Go ISL Style

IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Football Association (BFA) sent out a Press Release about the Bermuda Hogges, but more importantly posted on their website is information about a Women’s Football forum.

Recently the BFA held a meeting at the Devonshire Recreation Club, present from the BFA were Gregory Grimes 1st Vice President, Derek Broadley Technical Director, Jeremy Salaam (Women’s National Coach and Vance Brown, while only Paul Fisher from Somerset, Mark Wade and Wendall Furbert from PHC showed up.

What was first discussed was why they were there, and the answers given was 1. To make the game better, 2. To get more consistency, 3. To make the game more enjoyable, 4. To make it easier for young players to play at the appropriate level and 5. Because the BFA Care.

Among the current issues there was not enough worthwhile games, no pathway for young players, no long term plan for development and too many one sided games. The best players gravitate to certain clubs rather than sharing the talent across the teams, not all clubs are committed to girls and women’s football and the young players need to be challenged.

Out of the forum came a One Year Pilot Program for the Women’s Game, an Island Soccer League (ISL) style setup, which includes selecting 8 coaches, 8 assistants – both coaches and assistants will have to attend a BFA C License Level course that will be a “Think Tank” for running the Pilot Program.

All the players will be registered as BFA Players for this year, coaches will get a time period to pick a selected number of players prior to a draft pick system and all games will be played at the BFA Field on Weekends in a Festival atmosphere and it will get support via the BFA on marketing and reporting of the new structure
